Thermowood Thermo Ayous is a beautiful sustainable timber manufactured by a chemical free heat treatment to very high temperatures. Preservatives are injected into the wood to ensure durability and zero maintenance Thermowood is created by heat treating Scandinavian softwood to temperatures ranging from 180 – 230°. Thermowood is resistant to rot and fungi.

Eucalyptus
Eucalyptus is an elegant, eco-friendly timber known for its exceptional durability and unique aesthetic. Sourced sustainably, Eucalyptus wood undergoes a special treatment process that enhances its natural resistance to the elements, ensuring longevity and minimal maintenance. Eucalyptus timber boasts a beautiful, rich texture and color, adding a touch of sophistication to any garden room. This wood is naturally resistant to rot, insects, and fungi, making it an ideal choice for outdoor cladding that combines beauty with resilience.

Thermowood British Cedar is narrow and white in colour and the heartwood is reddish-brown. When freshly felled, the heartwood often displays a marked variation in colour; that from the centre of the log may be dark chocolate-brown changing to salmon pink nearer the sapwood, or the wood may be variegated with alternate dark and light zones.

After drying, the wood assumes a uniform reddish-brown tone, but after long exposure to the weather the colour is lost, and the wood becomes silver-grey. The weathered appearance is sometimes purposely sought by architects, but a further peculiarity is its ability to take and hold stain of the finest without discolouration.

Thermowood Shou Sugi Ban is an ancient Japanese architectural technique that was used to preserve wood by charring the surface with a hot flame. Shou Sugi Ban is also known as Yakisugi and traditionally was performed on Sugi wood, which is a Japanese cedar. The process involved charring the wood, cooling it, cleaning off any soot or burnt debris on the surface. Here’s a more detailed article we’ve written about it.

Another option is to add a UV protection oil; we recommend OSMO UV Protection oil, it enhances the natural character of the wood and contains biocides to protect against algae, mildew and fungal attack.

UV-Protection Oil has been developed to maintain the wood’s natural colour and slow the greying process by (UV factor) 12 times in comparison to untreated wood.
